OpenNews has selected its 2015 class of six new Knight-Mozilla fellows, read more about them and their backgrounds at OpenNews.org.

These six coders, designers and civic-minded hackers are doing important work for the open web, and we’re excited to see what comes out of their collaboration with some of the worlds’ leading news outlets!

The Knight-Mozilla fellowship is a special program to SVSG, with our own Dan Schultz, Mark Boas, Mike Tigas being awarded fellowships in the past.

This fantastic program serves to place fellows in world-class newsrooms such as NPR, The Guardian, and the Washington Post. During their 10 month stay, they will bring their unique coding and development skills directly to the world’s most preeminent newsrooms.

The web has fundamentally shifted the way people around the world are receiving and consuming journalism. Embedding technologically-minded people in newsrooms will help shape the way we learn about the world.

The Knight-Mozilla community also serves as advocates for the open web, so that the technology options they bring can be made made visible and available far beyond their host newsrooms. They do this by blogging their experiences and pushing their projects’ code to open repositories.
